OLON SANCTUARY
The Olon Sanctuary is a church located on top of a
small mountain that divides Olon and Montanita, built on the same cliff that
meets the ocean.
It’s a great place to take in the views of Olon, the
mountains, the beach and the ocean.SURFING IN OLON
With a very wide area of sand, and a beautiful long beach, Olon has excellent conditions for surfing. There are various places in Olon that offer surf classes with instructors that speak Spanish and English. You can hire an instructor from many of the hotels in Olon or from the surf schools on the beach.
DOS MANGAS, WALKS AND WATERFALLS
The community of Dos Mangas is located about 20 minutes’ drive from
Olon.
In this place there are two beautiful walks to choose from: one goes to
a waterfall and the other to an area of water pools. On both walks you can
enjoy the charming nature of this forest, appreciate the different types of
birds, and observe a large family of howler monkeys that you can see in the
winter season (December to June). There is also the option of doing this trip
on horseback.LOS FRAILES BEACH
This beach is great for swimming, snorkelling and relaxing. You can also take a two hour walk to see different lookouts and beaches. The sand in Los Frailes is beautifully white and very clean, and the water is mild and full of vigour and energy. Because Los Frailes is isolated from any towns, you will find yourself away from the stress and noise of city life.
Los Frailes is a magical adventure in the middle of nature that you will never forget.
THE COMMUNITY OF AGUA BLANCA
Agua Blanca is the perfect location for those that like archeology and the immense bio-diversity of a dry, tropical rainforest. The small museum in Agua Blanca has a variety of local artefacts, and the community also organize walks in the San Sebastian forest, either on foot or on horseback.
In the sulfa lake, you can bathe in water that has medicinal, healing and rejuvenating properties.
WHALE WATCHING
One of the most amazing experiences you can have is to see humpback whales jumping out of the water just a few meters from your boat.
Each year, hundreds of humpback whales arrive to the Ecuadorian coast between June and September, during which time they offer tourists a spectacular show including reproduction activity including birth of the baby whales.
LA PLATA ISLAND
Located just one hour and a half from the coastal town of Puerto Lopez, this fantastic island contains some of the same beauty as the famous Galapagos Islands. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the area because it is a refuge and a nesting site for seabirds such as the infamous blue-footed, red-footed and masked boobies, fragatas and pelicans, just to name a few!
